| Name: | Dora 'Tonks' Lupin | |||||||||
| Bio: | Dora Lupin![]() The Stats:Name: Nymphadora Siobhan Lupin nee Tonks Nicknames: 'Technically' goes by Dora, but most still call her Tonks Age: 29...again. Perhaps for the 10th time, but who's counting? Birthday: Bloodline: Half-blood and proud to be one! Gender: Female Wand: 10 inches, willow with unicorn hair. House: Hufflepuff, class of 91 Family:Parents: Theodore (deceased) and Andromeda Tonks Siblings: None by nature, Charlie and Ginny Weasley by heart Children: Felicity, age 15, and Noah, age 12 Cousins: Draco Malfoy on her mother's side, several muggle relatives on her Dad's side. She was also very close to her second cousin, Sirius Black, in the time she got to know him before his passing. And now, she's fallen in love with Draco's son, Lucien, her godchildren, and the many other children who've entered her life. This and That:Occupation: Auror Education: Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry Home: Born in London, raised in Yorkshire, lived in Hogsmeade on assignment for a while, currently lives in Hampton Finances: Comfortable. The Lupins will never be rich, both of them know that perfectly well. But between a professor's salary and an Auror's, they're able to keep a house over their heads, food on the table, clothes on their bodies, and the occasional scrimped-for luxury. Pets: The Lupin household is full of the strays that Noah 'will find a home for, I swear!' As it often gets lonely with her family off at school, however, Tonks doesn't mind. She also still has her Himalayan, Jinx, though he's less jinx-like and more lazy-like at nearly twenty. Appearance:Height: 5'1. Bite-sized! Eyes: Naturally, the Black gray eyes. She usually prefers to morph them hazel to keep people guessing exactly what colour she has that day. Hair: Tonks realised she had to grow up, but she clung to her fun and fresh hair colours until her youngest child informed her that she could not take him to the train with pink hair. Now, Tonks typically wears it in a strawberry-blonde, though from time to time she still likes to stray to the more fun colours, and isn't at all afraid to be a blonde bombshell. Build: Small. Small everything. Small arms, small legs, small figure. She's lost weight since Noah's birth and, as morphing her figure is the most wearing, she has no complaints about it. Style: Completely casual...and totally random. One day she'll be wearing a floral skirt and solid blouse, the next she'll have jeans with holes in them and baggy t-shirts. Her style is as unpredictible as she is. Romantic:Marital Status: Quite happily married, thanks Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual, but she won't deny having wondered. Turn Ons: Tonks' strongest reaction is inspired by her sense of smell. Musky scents, as well as some florals are the most likely to grab her attention. She also has a soft spot for a man holding a child, which fortunately hers often does. Turn Offs: Any form of Dark Magic. She knew some girls in school who found it fascinating and mysterious, but it's always disgusted her and she'd never allow herself to date anyone who was into it. Romantic History: Tonks' dating life has been fairly simple, really. She got her first kiss at her older cousin's 16th birthday party, a muggle friend of Amber's from her school. She'd was pretty much over that the second after it happened, however, as the git then proceeded to lick her cheek and take off running to his friends. The whole experience made Tonks more than a bit wary of every kiss she spared afterward. Despite an intense crush on Charlie for the first, oh, six years at Hogwarts, she never had the courage to act on it. She did go on a few casual dates with a Ravenclaw seventh year when she was in sixth, but nothing came from it other than a couple of Hogsmeade weekends. It wasn't until she joined the Auror Academy and started going out with a few of her classmates that she really became socially inclined. She made good friends, and had two steady boyfriends during that time period. The second, Hale Anderson, was the longest lasting - and most serious. However, Tonks was ready to settle down, Hale wasn't, and it wasn't long after that when she joined the Order. With her new commitment to Dumbledore's cause, she found herself pulling away from and eventually breaking up with him. Which put her in a perfect position to start noticing Remus Lupin. It hadn't exactly been intentional. She wasn't stupid, no matter what Sirius kept teasing her with. She knew he was older than she was, with lightyears of life experience that she couldn't even dream of having. And yes, of course she found out about his affliction. Did anyone actually expect her to be frightened of a man who'd been dealing with his lycanthropy for thirty someodd years? He was good, he was kind to her, and he was clearly devoted to his friends and those he'd started to regard as family. She'd have been more of a fool not to fall head over heels for him. It took ages before she found the courage to tell him so. And it was even longer before she'd get him to admit he felt the same, even though she'd suspected it all along. It took months apart and a werewolf attack right on Hogwarts grounds to bring him around to the fact that she truly didn't give a sodding bit one way or the other if he was 'too old, too poor, and too dangerous'. It was a slow process, one that culminated in him finally leaning on her as he took the role of caretaker for both Harry Potter and her own cousin, Draco Malfoy. They fell into a comfortable relationship, with the two of them borrowing strength from each other as they dealt with a dangerous world in front of them. Tonks didn't actually expect it to go much further than that. Remus had always seemed pretty adamant about not having a family, and that included a wife. And then the inevitable happened. The contraceptive potion failed, and Tonks wound up pregnant. Though Remus attempted to propose from the very beginning, Tonks was wary. She didn't want a man tied to her for the simple reason that she was having his child. There were plenty of single witches and wizards out there raising their kids together. It took some time and effort, as well as an incredibly romantic proposal on his part, but she finally agreed to marry him. Though their relationship is hardly a fairy tale, Tonks is proud of it. It's a story she's more than willing to share with their children. She knows her husband loves her, and even when they both throw themselves into their work, or disagree on how to raise the children, or have a row about housekeeping, she knows they'll overcome it. They've overcome far worse. Favourites:Animal: Cats, in many forms and fashions. Book: While she'd really rather curl up with an issue of Wizards Who Rock, Tonks has a strong affection for classic English literature, mainly the Bronte sisters. Jane Eyre is her current favourite. Colour: Uh, hello? Pink! Drink: Madam Rosmerta's homemade mulled meade. Food: Chocolate - especially brownies. Homemade. Not gooey. Soft on the inside, crunchy on the outside. Scent: Plumeria. Thing to Do: Most anything as long as it includes her family. A Sorta Fairytale:Tonks' family history is somewhat of a legend, the kind whispered behind hands at parties of the pureblood elite; the scandal in Cygnus and Druella's middle daughter running off with a muggleborn was so ghastly no one dared say it out loud. Andromeda was almost immediately blasted off of the family tree, and her marriage to Ted was a quiet ceremony with only their best friends and his immediate family in attendance. Despite distancing herself from her family, Andromeda was proud of her marriage and was quickly taken in by Ted's family, large but close-knit. It wasn't long at all into their marriage that Andromeda realised she was pregnant. Joking aside, the baby wasn't out of wedlock and the wedding wasn't 'shotgun', but barely ten months after their marriage, Ted and Andromeda's little girl was born. Young and still somewhat believing in fairy tales, Andromeda longed to give her daughter a lovely, whimsical name. Thus, Nymphadora she became. It was a huge name to burden such a tiny girl with, however, and Ted was the one who began calling her Dora. Neighbourhood children who discovered her full name, however, began calling her Nympho. Though at nine, she had no idea what it meant, she decided she hated the sniggers and coughs when it was said, and began demanding people call her by her surname only. Tonks was young when her morphing became obvious. At first, Ted and Andromeda assumed they were seeing things. Maybe her nose always had been slightly turned up. She was just a baby, all babies eyes changed colour. And since they noticed the changes at different times, they couldn't even confirm each other's stories. It wasn't until they were flipping through her baby pictures that they noticed it. Little Tonks' pictures were distinctly different from one page to the next. They looked at each other curiously, then back at their daughter. And sure enough, at the perfect moment, the toddler sneezed--and her hair turned bright red. Ted, as a muggleborn who'd never even heard of such a thing being possible, panicked. Andromeda, however, knew what metamorphmagi were, and after a trip to a Healer, Tonks' 'condition' was confirmed. It took her years to learn to look at it as an ability, or a gift. It was especially hard in school, before she learned to control the special power. She found herself in detention as often as not, simply for accidentally walking into class with green hair. By the time she hit Hogwarts, Tonks was already the spunky but clumsy bundle that she'd become as an adult. She was full of energy, excitement, and enthusiasm. Being sorted into Hufflepuff wasn't a huge shock for her. Her dad had been one, and her mum--well, certainly that stupid hat knew better than to put her in Slytherin, didn't it? Besides, Tonks rather liked the idea of being in a house known for being hard-working and loyal. Even if hard-working didn't always describe her. She enjoyed having a lie in and let her homework pile up on occasion. Smarter than she acted, Tonks found things were much more fun when she was socialising with her friends. It wasn't until careers counseling came around that Tonks knew she needed to buckle down. Being a hitwizard sounded fun, sure, but an Auror? There was prestige there. Prestige that young Tonks craved. Not only to counter her fool of a name, but quite possibly to gain a quiet respect not usually found in one so clumsy. There was also a part of her that desperately wanted to have, even if only in her own mind, a bit of satisfaction against the pureblood half of her family that rejected her and her mother. She knew in her heart that her aunts wouldn't care what became of her, but it was her own private smug moment. Her marks weren't superb, but she got into the Auror Academy, especially when they learned of her morphing abilities. As rare as metamorphmagi were, they immediately jumped at the opportunity to train one. She worked even harder in Auror training than she had at Hogwarts, and though her two left feet got her into a bit of a mess in Stealth and Tracking, she excelled brilliantly in Concealment and Disguise, and passed with an almost immediate position at the Ministry. It was the location of her first meeting with Kingsley Shacklebolt. The older, more experienced Auror often seemed frustrated with her and tired of dealing with the young woman's continuous mishaps. So nothing surprised her more than when he pulled her aside one day, saying he admired her dedication and her attitude, and could she maybe spare a few minutes after work, maybe over drinks? Fearing it was supposed to be a 'date' (as Tonks really couldn't see that happening!), Tonks followed him through London to Diagon Alley and on to the The Leaky Cauldron that day after work. Two firewhiskeys, three cigarettes, and a cold feeling in the depths of her stomach later, she knew her life would never be the same. A secret society against You Know Who, Sirius Black--her second cousin--innocent and living in London, and Dumbledore working defiantly right under the Ministry's nose. And Kingsley was inviting her along for the ride. Impossible? No, but definitely improbable. It was almost mind-boggling, but he said considering who her mother was, she might consider it, and would she be interested in speaking with Dumbledore personally? Recognising the risks Kingsley had taken by revealing the Order to her, Tonks agreed. It wasn't even a month later that she was in her first official Order meeting, and only a couple of weeks after that that she was arriving at the Dursleys' front door with the rest of the Advanced Guard. Tonks was expecting a lot of things from the Order. Assignments, secrecy, action, adventure. What she wasn't expecting was to fall in love. Remus Lupin didn't seem the slightest bit interested at first, and that was quite all right with her. He was everything she shouldn't have wanted, and vice versa quite frankly. Remus seemed the kind of man who needed to settle down with a mature woman, someone well-educated, well-spoken, and mild mannered. So when she caught him giving her the same look she'd been giving him, Tonks was more than a bit baffled. She found herself purposely planting it so that they were on assignments together. More than once she begged Sirius to ask him to stay--which, of course, Sirius saw right through. His little cousin couldn't care less if he had bonding time with his old schoolmate--she wanted time with the man for herself. He tried to warn her to be careful, but once Tonks fell, she fell hard. She knew he felt the same, she just knew it, and no matter how much he seemed to be trying to distance himself from her, she only tried harder. When she realised that being subtle was getting her nowhere, she finally took matters into her own hands. She came right out and asked him out--first for drinks, then for dinner. On the surface, it could easily be passed off as friendship. Molly, however, saw right through her, as did Sirius. Tonks didn't fight them on it--maybe they'd help plead her case. It didn't matter. Remus maintained that he was too old for her, too poor, and too dangerous. None of which mattered to Tonks, and she told him so. More than once. An Auror made a respectable living, she'd support them both. Age equaled wisdom and experience, and Sirius had taught her what to expect with each full moon, so that certainly didn't bother her either. And just as she felt she was starting to get through to him, he left on his assignment to attempt to infiltrate Fenrir Greyback's feral werewolf pack. Recovering from the curse from Bellatrix, sick with worry over Remus, hurt by his rejection, and caught up in the stress of the war that had hit close to home and taken Sirius away yet again, Tonks found herself sinking into a depression. She accepted the transfer to Hogsmeade to help patrol the city and the school as well. It was meant to give her something to distract her, but instead, only made it worse. Hogsmeade was quieter than the city, and gave her too much time to think. With a few exceptions, there wasn't even that much dark activity to work with. And she stayed awake with every full moon. Her world turned upside down once again the night of the battle at Hogwarts. Tonks was sure there wouldn't even be a problem. Dumbledore had only asked her, Bill, and--though her heart ached to see him there--Remus to help patrol as a precaution. He wouldn't be there, it was late, he just wanted to make sure everything went all right, right? But of course, Dumbledore was smarter than even she wanted to believe. They lost so much that night. Dumbledore was gone. Bill had been mauled by the person--thing, really--that Tonks feared the most, Neville had been injured, and Snape had become a murderer. Add to the night's tragedies the fact that she'd humiliated herself and revealed to a room full of people her feelings for Remus, and Tonks could sufficiently declare that the worst night of her life. Things began to put themselves back together slowly. Apparently, she'd finally issued a wake up call of sorts to Remus, and things began to slowly progress. He'd be going back to the school as the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, she was coming to appreciate the quiet of Hogsmeade versus the mad pace of London, Bill and Fleur's wedding went off with hardly a hitch--things seemed to be coming together. But of course, things never seemed to go Tonks' way. All hell broke loose when Draco Malfoy was delivered to the school to be under Remus' watch for safe-keeping, followed shortly by Harry Potter, both boys looking near death. It was then that Tonks accepted that until the war ended, her life would be an up and down roller coaster. She also knew then that, no matter their differences, Remus needed her. It was also when she realised she had to fully stand and support the Order, truly becoming an adult once and for all--even if there are times she'd still rather kickback with a Weird Sisters special on the WWN and a large firewhiskey. During a battle with Death Eaters at the Ministry of Magic, Ted Tonks was killed, leaving Tonks without a father and Andromeda a widow. During the same battle, Tonks herself was injured, and she found herself undergoing thorough examinations. Much more thorough than most arm injuries would ordinarily require. And it wasn't much longer before she found out why. The Healer informed her, with no questioning in her tone, that she was pregnant. Terrified of Remus' reaction, she told him, and was stunned when he seemed even more pleased than she was. Mere months later, he proposed, and not only was she planning for the birth of their first child, but also for their marriage. All while attempting to help the Order--which wasn't going so well, considering neither Andromeda nor Remus wanted her participating much in her matronly condition. She even had to take time away from work in order to raise her family. Since the war's end, Tonks has settled rather comfortably in the roles of working mother and devoted wife. She's still as in love with her work as ever, even moreso now that she doesn't have to worry about being killed around every corner. She adores being a mum, and hopes that one day, she'll be able to measure up to her own mum. And that she'll make her father proud. She feels she's helped save the Black family name, right along side her cousin Draco, who she's becoming surprisingly fond of. | |||||||||
